These are two of the most popular counties in which to live in South Florida, and this guide can provide you with some assistance in deciding which county is best for you and your family. Take a look at a comparison of Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

Is Broward County or Palm Beach County Less Expensive?

As you will quickly find out, both locations are quite expensive to live in, especially compared to national averages in housing, food, and transportation. This is generally true for most of Florida since it is such a beautiful state with warm weather throughout most of the year. So, let’s compare Broward and Palm Beach Counties to help you make your decision:

  • Housing costs are 16.6% higher than the national average in Broward County while Palm Beach County is only 4.4% higher
  • Food costs are 3% higher in Broward County
  • Transportation costs are 33.5% higher than the national average 27.4% higher in Palm Beach County

Overall, both counties are more expensive than the national average, but Palm Beach County is slightly less expensive when compared to Broward County even though it is the wealthiest county in Florida per capita.

Which County Is Bigger?

Although these two counties both make up part of the Miami metropolitan area, the size difference between the two is remarkable in both land area and population.

  • The Broward County population is 1,944,375 and has a land area of 1,322.8 square miles
  • The Palm Beach County population is 1,492,191 with a land area of 2,383 square miles

The urbanized portion of Broward County only takes up 427.8 square miles, and the rest is dedicated to conservation lands. This means that the large population of Broward has very limited space in which to live and thrive. In Palm Beach County, 17.3% of the total area is covered by water while the rest is land.

Depending on your preference for population and space, you will want to consider these two factors in your home buying decision.

Where Will You Find the Better Weather?

When asking whether Broward County or Palm Beach County has better weather, it would be very difficult to answer because they are right on top of each other. Broward is just next county south of Palm Beach, so you will be getting very similar weather, especially since both counties border the Atlantic Ocean.

For both counties, the warmest months are in the summer when the temperatures can average in the low 90s with oppressive humidity. In the winter months, though, temperatures remain very temperate and average in the high 50s. This makes South Florida in general a highly attractive location to live, especially for the snowbirds!

If you are looking for dramatic changes in the weather so that you can experience all 4 seasons, South Florida is not likely to be your ideal location because it gets zero snowfall or dramatically low temperatures. For subtropical climates throughout the year, Broward County or Palm Beach County are great options!

What Is Broward County Famous For?

If you are considering moving to Broward County, you will not be disappointed in all of the great activities and things to see throughout the county. You will certainly want to spend plenty of time enjoying the sun and surf at locations such as Hollywood Beach Boardwalk, Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach Boardwalk, and the Pompano Municipal Pier.

You can also find a variety of museums to explore including Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, Coral Spring Museum of Art, and the Stranahan House. For shopping, you will not be disappointed when you check out the Beach Place, Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop, Festival Flea Market Mall (Pompano Beach), and the Sawgrass Mills.
